SUMMARY:Louise O'Neill: A Bigger Life
DESCRIPTION:Join award-winning author Louise O'Neill in conversation about her first memoir\, with author Sophie White\n\n\nDublin Book Festival is delighted to present an evening with award-winning author Louise O’Neill to celebrate her new book\, A Bigger Life. Known for her sharp and unflinching feminist writing\, with bestselling novels including Idol and Asking for It\, Louise will now join author Sophie White in conversation about her first memoir. \nAt 38\, Louise had the life she thought she wanted—until her long-term relationship ended\, taking with it the home\, future\, and sense of certainty she’d built. Part memoir\, part manifesto\, A Bigger Life is a candid\, courageous exploration of what happens when the life we have built is upended\, and how\, when one door closes\, another opens. Heartbroken but defiant\, Louise made the radical decision to say yes to everything\, to take risks\, and to reclaim her life—on her own terms. What followed was a dating experiment that took her across the world and challenged everything she had been taught to settle for – in life\, love\, and in herself. Both candid and full of wit\, this memoir is a courageous exploration of modern womanhood\, sexual freedom\, and the myths we’re sold about what makes a life worthwhile. It’s about embracing uncertainty\, finding joy after heartbreak\, and creating space for the version of yourself that doesn’t play small. \nJoin us for an evening of reflection\, insight and uplifting humour as we consider the question at the heart of the book: What does it really mean to live a bigger life? \n \nLouise O’Neill is the bestselling and multi-award-winning author of Only Ever Yours\, Asking For It\, Almost Love\, Idol and Whatever Happened to Madeline Stone.. Known for her sharp\, fearless feminist writing\, she has become one of the most important voices in contemporary Irish literature. Her work has been widely praised for its bold social commentary and emotional depth. A Bigger Life is her first full-length memoir. \n \nSophie White is an award-winning novelist\, essayist and podcaster from Dublin. She is the author of books including Filter This\, The Snag List\, Corpsing and Where I End\, which won the Shirley Jackson Award for best novel. Her seventh book and fifth novel\, My Hot Friend won the An Post Irish book Award for Popular Fiction. Her latest book\, Such A Good Couple\, was published last year. Sophie writes a weekly column ‘Nobody Tells You’ for the Sunday Independent LIFE magazine. \n \nThere are two ticket options available for this event. The Book & Ticket bundle includes a trade paperback edition of A Bigger Life. \nPlease note we may be capturing imagery at this event for use on our social media and website. \nTo hear first about future Dublin Book Festival\, events sign up to our newsletter here. \nWith thanks to our venue partner 1WML.

SUMMARY:Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor: End Times Fascism
DESCRIPTION:Join acclaimed authors and activists Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor for a powerful conversation around their new book\, End Times Fascism\n\n\nDublin Book Festival is delighted to welcome renowned writers and activists Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor to Dublin to discuss their forthcoming book\, End Times Fascism: And the Fight for the Living World. This blistering reckoning with our age takes us deep into today’s man-made Armageddon complex – and shows us how to stand against it before it’s too late. \nAn award-winning journalist and author of bestsellers including No Logo and Doppelganger\, Naomi Klein has become one of today’s most powerful and influential voices across issues ranging from corporate globalisation to social and climate justice. For this forthcoming book\, she joins forces with fellow award-winning author and documentarian\, Astra Taylor\, for a revelatory look at the growing far-right movement\, and how we can build a collective response strong enough to stop it. \nAn apocalyptic alliance of religious fundamentalists\, billionaire Silicon Valley tech kings and ethno-nationalists is on the move\, towards a catastrophic future from which they are convinced they will be spared. Klein and Taylor investigate how\, around the globe\, those who are making our world unliveable through climate chaos and job-consuming AI are preparing to protect themselves from the fallout. And yet these new supremacist survivalists remain vulnerable in that they have no vision of a shared future. Now\, more than ever\, is a critical moment to stand together and defend what’s left of democracy\, before it’s smashed up beyond repair. \nThe authors will join award-winning journalist\, photographer and author\, Sally Hayden\, for a powerful and ultimately hopeful evening of conversation around how we can collectively break the doom loop and find a better way of living together\, rooted in our existence on this earth. \n \nNaomi Klein is an award-winning journalist and documentary filmmaker\, and the best-selling author of Doppelganger\, No Logo\, The Shock Doctrine and other acclaimed books\, which have been translated into 35 languages. She is associate professor of geography and codirector of the Centre for Climate Justice at the University of British Columbia\, and writes a regular column for the Guardian. Doppelganger was the winner of the Women’s Prize for Nonfiction and named one of the ten best books of the year by New York magazine\, Slate\, and Time. \n \nAstra Taylor is an award-winning writer\, activist\, documentarian\, and co-founder of the Debt Collective. She is the author of The People’s Platform\, which won the American Book Award\, and Democracy May Not Exist But We’ll Miss It When It is Gone and The Age of Insecurity. Taylor regularly writes for publications including The New Yorker and The New York Times. Taylor toured with the band Neutral Milk Hotel and was the 2023 CBC Massey Lecturer. She is represented by Melissa Flashman at Janklow and Nesbit. \n \nSally Hayden is an award-winning journalist\, photographer and author. Her first book\, My Fourth Time\, We Drowned: Seeking Refuge on the World’s Deadliest Migration Route won the Orwell Prize for Political Writing\, the An Post Irish Book of the Year Award\, the Michel Déon Prize\, the Terzani Prize\, and was shortlisted for the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction\, among others. This Is Also a Love Story: Searching for Good in a Divided World’ is Sally’s second book\, published May 2026. She was named overall ‘journalist of the year’ at the Irish Journalism Awards in 2023 and 2025. \n \nThere are two ticket options available. The Book & Ticket bundle includes a hardback copy of End Times Fascism. \nPlease note we may be capturing imagery at this event for use on our social media and website. \nTo hear first about future Dublin Book Festival\, events sign up to our newsletter here.

DESCRIPTION:Pitch your mate and help them find true love or sit back and find the love of your life via the romantic medium of powerpoint!\n\n\nPitch your mate and help them find true love or sit back and find the love of your life via the romantic medium of powerpoint! \nHave you got a mate who’s too shy to put themselves out there but definitely ready to meet the love of their life? \nOr maybe… that mate is you? \n \nWelcome to Date My Mate\, a two-hour event where confidence is optional and friendship is mandatory. Instead of awkward small talk\, we’re handing you the clicker. \nParticipants will have up to four minutes to present a PowerPoint pitching their friend to a room full of potential suiters. Think: green flags\, red flags\, fun facts\, embarrassing photos (used lovingly)\, and why this person is an absolute catch. \n \nHow it works: \n\nPurchase a ticket to attend the event\nYou’ll receive a confirmation email with a google form to nominate yourself or a friend (this will be limited to 14 people)\nWe will let you know if you have been picked to present or not (sorry\, we are limited on time\, we can’t give everybody the time!)\nIf choosen to present\, you’ll get four glorious minutes to sell the dream\nThere will be a prize for the best presentation\n\n \nNo pressure. No swiping. Just slides\, laughs\, and maybe… love. \n \nReady to pitch perfection? 💘📈 \n \nCome alone to meet somebody new\, or bring a friend! \n \nWhat should my presentation include? \nShow off your friend in the best light possible. Some pictures\, their hobbies\, what they think is the perfect date. Maybe even some of their unusal habits. Keep it fun and lighthearted and love will follow…! \n \nCan I come alone? \nAbsolutely! Come alone and meet the love of your life or bring a friend to help them meet theirs. \n \nDo I have to pitch? \nNope\, not everybody needs to pitch somebody. We will be selecting a few people to pitch their friends and everybody else can enjoy the presentations! \n \nMy friend can’t make it\, can I still pitch them? \nWe want everybody that is being pitched to attend the event so that they can meet their potential suiters on the night\, so yes they must be in attendance. \n \nDoes everybody need a ticket? \nYes\, everybody that plans to come needs a ticket\, whether presenting\, being presented or just a spectator. \n \nWhat is the age range? \nThis particular event is for those aged 21 to 35 years. \n \nApplications? \nBuying a ticket does not guarantee you will get to present\, there is lots of presentations. \nWe do not accept people bringing presenations on the day or emailing last minute. \n \nDate My Mate is brought to you by Alternative Dublin.

Join us as we explore how the power of mythology continues to inspire contemporary writers. Kim Curran’s Brigid (Penguin) is a radical reimagining of Ireland’s beloved saint. Eilish Fisher’s The Waters and the Wild (Penguin) is a moving verse novel about grief\, family\, hope\, and the world beyond what we know. Dave Rudden’s Sister Wake (Hodder & Stoughton) is an action-packed epic fantasy of rebellion\, intrigue\, horror\, dangerous gods\, and Celtic mythology. The authors join author Jo Kerrigan in conversation. \nPlease note we may be capturing candid imagery at this event for use on our social media and website. \nKim Curran was born in Dublin and grew up in London. She holds a degree inPhilosophy and Literature from Sussex University and is a freelance Creative Director and Royal Literary Fund Fellow. She is the author of The Morrigan and Brigid. \nEilish Fisher lives in a small coastal town in Co. Wicklow with her husband and son. His new fantasy trilogy for adults\, the Sunday Times-bestselling Sister Wake\, draws heavily on Irish mythology and rebellion history\, and has been called a ‘brilliant\, rebellious scream of a novel’ by R.S. Garcia and ‘a politically charged epic’ by the Irish Times. \nJo Kerrigan was born and bred in Cork\, where she took her first two degrees at UCC before moving to the UK to continue her academic work. After a distinguished career there\, including winning the Oxbow Prize for medieval history at Oxford\, she returned to her roots to apply her research skills to Ireland’s undiscovered past. A specialist in ancient crafts and folklore\, she now devotes herself to exploring how everyday life was lived long ago. Jo and her husband Richard live in West Cork\, surrounded by books and cameras\, cats and dogs. Previous books include Old Ways\, Old Secrets; Follow the Old Road; Brehon Laws; Stories From the Sea; and All The Way By The Grand Canal. SUMMARY:Words\, Stories and the Irish Way of Life
DESCRIPTION:Join Colm O'Regan and Páraic Kerrigan for a warm and witty conversation around their latest books\n\n\nWhat makes something quintessentially Irish? And what do the words we use\, the stories we tell and the cultural moments we remember reveal about us? \nJoin Colm O’Regan and Páraic Kerrigan for a warm\, witty and wonderfully Irish conversation inspired by their new books. In Tipping Away (Gill Books)\, Colm turns his attention to Hiberno-English\, exploring the words and expressions that have evolved through our workplaces\, homes\, pubs\, communities and everyday lives. In Pop Culchie (Eriu)\, Páraic delves into the oddities and eccentricities of Irish popular culture\, from Daniel O’Donnell and the Fat Frog to national moral panics\, forgotten pop acts\, unusual scandals and the curious history of Housewife of the Year. \nIn conversation with arts journalist Pat Carty\, they uncover the humour\, quirks and contradictions that make Irish culture so distinctive — and ask why we are\, quite simply\, the way we are. \n \nPáraic Kerrigan is an Irish Times bestselling author\, researcher and Assistant Professor at UCD. He was also a star in the smash hit second season of The Traitors Ireland\, where he was selected as a traitor. His expertise in Irish popular culture stems partly from academic study and partly from an unhealthy level of affection for Irish pop music and cult films. He maintains\, without irony\, that Fade Street and Dublin Wives are key national texts worthy of serious scholarly attention. He also believes that Six’s “There a Whole Lot of Loving” is one of the great\, overlooked achievements of Irish musical history. Following several unsuccessful attempts to become a pop star\, he turned to writing books instead. His previous book\, Reeling in the Queers\, was shortlisted for an Irish Book Award in 2024. \nColm O’Regan is an acclaimed Irish author and columnist\, known for his humorous explorations of Irish life and culture. He is the author of eight books\, including the Irish Mammies trilogy\, Bolloxology\, the Ann Devine novels and Climate Worrier. As a stand-up comedian\, MC and event host\, he has performed all over the world. He has written for and performed on TV and radio and has a weekly column for the Irish Examiner. He lives in Dublin\, but the language of his birthplace of Dripsey in Co. Cork is still very much in his heart. \nPat Carty is a freelance arts journalist and broadcaster whose work has featured in The Sunday Independent\, The Sunday Times\, The Irish Examiner\, The Irish Independent\, The Irish Times\, The Business Post\, Hot Press\, and Classic Rock Magazine. He’s a regular contributor on RTE Radio One’s Arena\, and on several Newstalk shows including The Hard Shoulder\, Moncrieff\, and Lunchtime Live. He’s turned up on television the odd time too but producers are unanimous in their opinion that his is a face for radio.
