SUMMARY:Discovering the Myths of Ireland
DESCRIPTION:With Ellen Ryan\n\n\nIn Partnership with the National Museum of Ireland \nChildren must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please book 1 ticket per person attending. \nIn her award-winning and beautifully illustrated books\, Gods Don’t Cry and Girls Who Slay Monsters (HarperCollins Children’s)\, author Ellen Ryan brings the adventure and magic of Irish mythology to life in new ways. For this one-of-a-kind event with the National Museum of Ireland\, join Ellen as she takes the stories further\, linking them with real-life artefacts from our ancient past. This interactive and immersive family experience will include a reading\, ‘Which God Are You’ quiz\, and Halloween fortune-telling game. \nPlease note we may be capturing candid imagery at this event for use on our social media and website. \nEllen Ryan is a journalist and contributor to the Irish Times and Irish Independent. She has a passion for Irish myth and loves to visit archaeological sites (though she always brings a raincoat). Along with her husband and daughter\, Ellen is lucky to live by the sea in Co. Wicklow\, where she can keep an eye out for sea gods. \nTo hear first about our future events sign up to our newsletter here.

SUMMARY:Dublin By Dusk: Mythology in Fiction
DESCRIPTION:Kim Curran\, Eilish Fisher and Dave Rudden in conversation with Jo Kerrigan\n\n\nIn partnership with the National Museum of Ireland. \nWhat happens when ancient myths are reborn for the modern world? Join us as we explore how the power of mythology continues to inspire contemporary writers. Kim Curran’s Brigid (Penguin) is a radical reimagining of Ireland’s beloved saint. Eilish Fisher’s The Waters and the Wild (Penguin) is a moving verse novel about grief\, family\, hope\, and the world beyond what we know. Dave Rudden’s Sister Wake (Hodder & Stoughton) is an action-packed epic fantasy of rebellion\, intrigue\, horror\, dangerous gods\, and Celtic mythology. The authors join author Jo Kerrigan in conversation. \nPlease note we may be capturing candid imagery at this event for use on our social media and website. \nKim Curran was born in Dublin and grew up in London. She holds a degree inPhilosophy and Literature from Sussex University and is a freelance Creative Director and Royal Literary Fund Fellow. She is the author of The Morrigan and Brigid. \nEilish Fisher lives in a small coastal town in Co. Wicklow with her husband and son. Eilish received both a Words Ireland mentorship and a full Literary Bursary Award from the Arts Council of Ireland. \nDave Rudden is the author of multiple award-winning series for adults and young people\, including Knights of the Borrowed Dark and Tales of Dark Isle\, as well as extensive work for stage and screen. His new fantasy trilogy for adults\, the Sunday Times-bestselling Sister Wake\, draws heavily on Irish mythology and rebellion history\, and has been called a ‘brilliant\, rebellious scream of a novel’ by R.S. Garcia and ‘a politically charged epic’ by the Irish Times. \nJo Kerrigan was born and bred in Cork\, where she took her first two degrees at UCC before moving to the UK to continue her academic work. After a distinguished career there\, including winning the Oxbow Prize for medieval history at Oxford\, she returned to her roots to apply her research skills to Ireland’s undiscovered past. A specialist in ancient crafts and folklore\, she now devotes herself to exploring how everyday life was lived long ago. Jo and her husband Richard live in West Cork\, surrounded by books and cameras\, cats and dogs. Previous books include Old Ways\, Old Secrets; Follow the Old Road; Brehon Laws; Stories From the Sea; and All The Way By The Grand Canal. Jo is a regular guest as the folklore expert on RTE Radio’s Oliver Callan show\, and her latest book Irish Fairy Forts was in the Bestseller Charts for nearly 20 weeks. \nTo hear first about our future events sign up to our newsletter here.

SUMMARY:Legends\, Ghosts and Ghouls of Dublin | Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Experience Dublin's mysterious legends and myths on this 90 minute walking tour.\n\n\nLegends\, Ghosts\, and Ghouls!\n \nIreland has a unique relationship with its legendary past. Kept alive in the histories of the Filí and the Seanchaidhe\, Ireland’s gods were not destroyed but – in the words of Mark Williams – demoted to lesser beings. This is an important element of Ireland’s oral histories\, which in turn have coloured its popular histories and left many legends for us to parse over today. \nOn the other side of Irish history we have the ballrooms\, the salons\, and the private studies of Dublin’s litterati. The seances and unwrapping parties\, the mysteries and the macabre\, all combining into the secret esoteric orders that strove to unlock the secrets of existence. \nCome explore with us where these two elements fuse to create the wonderful world of Legends\, Ghosts\, and Ghouls that are just as much a part of Dublin’s history as any of its citizens and buildings… \nOur tour has over 100 excellent reviews online and is ranked in the top tours on Trip Advisor. \nTOPICS \n\nMaud Gonne & WB Yeats\nThe Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn\nHuguenot Cemetery\nThe Ghost of the Shelbourne\nSt. Stephen’s Green’s Grizzly History\nBram Stoker\nGraverobbers\nDarkey Kelly\nDublin’s House of Horrors\nTenements\nJustice in Dublin\n\nPRIVATE TOURS \nWe are also now doing private tours for groups\, if you want to host your own tour get in touch with us.
