SUMMARY:Young Ireland's Musicians
DESCRIPTION:Pippa Molony and Ahmed\, With Love\n\n\nFrom pen to sound\, how do words become music? Join two exciting emerging Irish artists for a lively conversation about songwriting\, creativity and finding your voice in a changing Ireland. They’ll share what happens behind the scenes\, from the first line on the page to the finished track\, and explore the unexpected connections\, differences and influences that shape their music. A conversation about words\, sound and what it means to make music for Ireland now. \nThis is an 18+ event. \nCurated by DBF Youth Curator JP Curran\, \nSupported by Dublin UNESCO City of Literature. \nWhile this event is free\, by making one of your tickets a ‘Supporter’s Ticket‘ you will be making a valuable contribution towards keeping future events accessible and towards the sustainable growth of Dublin Book Festival. \nPlease note we may be capturing candid imagery at this event for use on our social media and website. \nPippa Molony is an exciting electronic act from Dublin. Her debut EP\, Hungry Ghost (October 2024)\, is an eight-track avant-pop EP that explores consumption\, folklore and dreams\, and was created in collaboration with producer Rory Sweeney. Her music nods to artists such as Sinéad O’Connor\, Jenny Hval\, Jockstrap\, Astrid Sonne\, Róis\, Rachael Lavelle\, Tirzah\, Lankum and Bjork\, while establishing a distinctly Irish\, dark ethereal and otherworldly sonic identity of her own. More recently\, Pippa released a synth driven\, atmospheric cover of the Irish rebel song The Foggy Dew (March 2026\, feat. Rory Sweeney). The track marks her first release since Hungry Ghost and the beginning of a new body of work\, with new music set for release in late 2026 and into 2027. She has been featured by magazines such as Anois Os Aird\, Hot Press\, District Magazine\, The Thin Air and Fourth Best\, among others\, and has received radio play in Ireland and abroad. In 2025\, she was named a Hot Press ‘Hot for 25’ artist\, and her EP Hungry Ghost found itself in multiple end of year round ups (David Kitt/New Jackson’s Favourite Songs of 2024 for Nialler 9\, The Thin Air’s Top 100 Irish Releases of 2024\, and more. \nAhmed Karim Tamu (known professionally as Ahmed\, With Love) is a 26-year-old Irish-born Sierra Leonean musician\, actor\, and professional wrestler (in training) with a multidisciplinary background in live performing arts\, including writing\, directing\, producing\, and event organization. Although his media and sources of inspiration vary\, a constant thread running through Ahmed’s artistry is the beauty in the absurd and the belief that creativity need not take itself seriously to explore serious subjects or be seriously appreciated. Ahmed’s strong but tongue-in-cheek performance style has made him a staple part of Ireland’s live music scene\, having performed at the likes of Forbidden Fruit\, All Together Now\, The Great Escape (Brighton) and Primavera (Barcelona). Outside of music\, Ahmed is still involved in the theatrical space\, with prior acting roles as part of Pan Pan Theatre Company (Mespil In The Dark) and The 24-Hour Plays 2026. He is currently ran and performed in the third iteration of his award-winning pro-wrestling-themed live music event Clash At The Quays! as part of Dublin Fringe Festival. \nTo hear first about future Dublin Book Festival events sign up to our newsletter here.

SUMMARY:From Character to Plot
DESCRIPTION:Prose Workshop with Tim MacGabhann\n\n\nIn partnership with the Irish Writers Centre. \nFeel frustrated with your story? It’s not because you don’t know what you want: it’s because your characters don’t. This workshop\, with author and poet Tim MacGabhann\, features exercises for getting to know your characters’ desires\, and setting them in motion\, therefore animating your short story or novel-in-progress. The way that this macro level of the story is borne out at the level of the sentence will also be considered\, with a view to producing cleaner and more transparent prose. \nPlease note we may be capturing candid imagery at this event for use on our social media and website. \nTim MacGabhann is the author of the novels Call Him Mine (2019) and How to Be Nowhere (2020)\, the memoir The Black Pool (2025)\, the short story collection Saints (2025)\, and the poetry collection Found in a Context of Destruction (2026). \nTo hear first about future Dublin Book Festival events sign up to our newsletter here.

SUMMARY:The Poem as Breath and Artefact
DESCRIPTION:Susan Connolly and Máighréad Medbh\n\n\nIn Susan Connolly and Máighréad Medbh’s new collections with Macha Press\, the forming of words is a living\, breathing process. Connolly’s Midwinter explores how names proliferate while still representing the same things. She will describe the evolution of the book from handmade concertina artefact to print. Medbh’s Dwelling is rooted in sound and rhythm. She will perform poems from the book and reflect on the roles of history and its erasure\, embodied walking\, reading and reimagining in her writing. \nSusan Connolly was born in Drogheda\, Co. Louth where she still lives. She has published three full-length collections of poetry: For the Stranger (Dedalus Press\, 1993)\, Forest Music (Shearsman Books\, 2009) and Bridge of the Ford (Shearsman Books\, 2016). She was awarded the Patrick and Katherine Kavanagh Fellowship in Poetry in 2001. In the same year she received a Publications Grant from the Heritage Council of Ireland for A Salmon in the Pool\, a literary and place-names map of the river Boyne from source to sea. Her poems have been published in journals and online in Ireland\, the UK\, Canada and Australia and are included in The Field Day Anthology: vol IV\, Voices and Poetry of Ireland and Windharp: Poems of Ireland since 1916. Some of her work has been broadcast on The Poetry Programme on RTE Radio 1. Bridge of the Ford (2016)\, a collection of visual poetry\, is her tribute to Drogheda. Redfoxpress published What Noise on Earth in 2019 and in 2022 her artist’s book Looking Across the River. Her poetry was exhibited at the Museum of Literature Ireland\, Dublin in 2024 as part of the exhibition Is this a poem? She was awarded an Agility Award from the Arts Council of Ireland in 2024 to make POEM\, a handwritten poetry map of the river Boyne from Newgrange to the sea using texts from writers who in their poetry have celebrated the Boyne. POEM takes the form of a concertina book over 3 metres long. Her books have been displayed and sold at Dublin Art Book Fair and at Drogheda Zine Fair. \nMáighréad Medbh is a poet with nine published books and a reputation for compelling performance. Since her debut with Blackstaff Press in 1990\, she has performed widely in Ireland\, Europe\, the UK and US. Her poetic narrative of the Irish famine\, Tenant\, was initially published online and subsequently as a print book (Salmon\, 1999). She works mostly in long-form sequences or conceptual explorations\, and her ecological verse novel\, Parvit of Agelast (Arlen House\, 2016)\, was shortlisted for the 2017 Pigott Prize. Her four-part lyrical story for children\, The Rescue\, was first broadcast on Ireland’s Lyric FM in 2007\, set to music by Fergal Carroll. Other work includes transversions from Galician and Arabic\, collaboration on award-winning art films\, poems in several major anthologies and many journals\, three online novels\, and an essay-blog from 2012 to 2020. SUMMARY:The Stained Glass of Earley Studios
DESCRIPTION:Walking Tour with Michael Earley\n\n\nWith its beginnings in 1864\, Earley Studios grew to become the largest stained glass studio in Ireland. Aiming to exclusively serve the requirements of Catholic patrons\, the studio contributed greatly to the dominant stained-glass aesthetic of Irish stained glass in the early decades of the 20th Century. Discover Dublin’s heritage buildings featuring the stained glass of Earley Studios\, including St Kevin’s Church and Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church. \nPlease note we may be capturing candid imagery at this event for use on our social media and website. \nWhen Michael Earley retired from medical practice as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon\, he enrolled in a PhD course in the National College of Art and Design (NCAD)\, obtaining a doctorate in December 2023 for his thesis on ‘Devotion and Tradition in Stained Glass in Twentieth Century Ireland’. He has given lectures on Irish stained glass with particular emphasis on his forebears’ studio often combined with tours of their work. His stained glass publications have been in local county and church booklets\, in blogs for ‘Arts and Crafts Tours’\, and in the annual review ‘Glass Ireland’. His book on Earley Studios is due for publication in 2026. \nTo hear first about future Dublin Book Festival events sign up to our newsletter here.

SUMMARY:No One Tells You
DESCRIPTION:Lunchtime Talk with Carlo Gébler\n\n\nIn partnership with the Irish Writers Centre. \nJoin author Carlo Gébler as he explores what sense is one to make of the death of another? Adopt the stoic position\, endure and learn? Accept death\, whatever else it is\, as educational? It often seems that’s what the culture would like us to do but in No One Tells You\, the Last Years of Edna O’Brien (New Island) Gébler’s tack is that death is an appalling diminution about which there is nothing good to be said. Hurt is hurt. Grief isn’t educational—it’s enlarging\, which is something else entirely. \nPlease note we may be capturing candid imagery at this event for use on our social media and website. \nCarlo Gébler’s most recent publications include I\, Antigone\, the biography of Oedipus as written by his daughter\, Antigone and A Cold Eye\, Notes from a Shared Island 1989 – 2024. His latest memoir is\, No One Tells You\, the Last Years of Edna O’Brien. Carlo has been a prison teacher since the mid-1990s. He teaches at Trinity College Dublin\, based in the Oscar Wilde Centre for Irish Writing. He is a member of Aosdána. \nTo hear first about our future events sign up to our newsletter here.

SUMMARY:Drumcondra Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Drumcondra’s fascinating past will be revealed during this walking tour led by Ruth McManus\n\n\nDrumcondra’s fascinating past will be revealed during this walking tour led by Ruth McManus\, author of the Drumcondra volume of the Irish Historic Towns Atlas suburbs series. The area’s evolving landscape and its changing relationship with the city of Dublin will be explored\, from monastic farmland to elite rural retreat and ultimate incorporation as an inner suburb. SUMMARY:Words\, Stories and the Irish Way of Life
DESCRIPTION:Join Colm O'Regan and Páraic Kerrigan for a warm and witty conversation around their latest books\n\n\nWhat makes something quintessentially Irish? And what do the words we use\, the stories we tell and the cultural moments we remember reveal about us? \nJoin Colm O’Regan and Páraic Kerrigan for a warm\, witty and wonderfully Irish conversation inspired by their new books. In Tipping Away (Gill Books)\, Colm turns his attention to Hiberno-English\, exploring the words and expressions that have evolved through our workplaces\, homes\, pubs\, communities and everyday lives. In Pop Culchie (Eriu)\, Páraic delves into the oddities and eccentricities of Irish popular culture\, from Daniel O’Donnell and the Fat Frog to national moral panics\, forgotten pop acts\, unusual scandals and the curious history of Housewife of the Year. \nIn conversation with arts journalist Pat Carty\, they uncover the humour\, quirks and contradictions that make Irish culture so distinctive — and ask why we are\, quite simply\, the way we are. \n \nPáraic Kerrigan is an Irish Times bestselling author\, researcher and Assistant Professor at UCD. He was also a star in the smash hit second season of The Traitors Ireland\, where he was selected as a traitor. His expertise in Irish popular culture stems partly from academic study and partly from an unhealthy level of affection for Irish pop music and cult films. He maintains\, without irony\, that Fade Street and Dublin Wives are key national texts worthy of serious scholarly attention. He also believes that Six’s “There a Whole Lot of Loving” is one of the great\, overlooked achievements of Irish musical history. Following several unsuccessful attempts to become a pop star\, he turned to writing books instead. His previous book\, Reeling in the Queers\, was shortlisted for an Irish Book Award in 2024. \nColm O’Regan is an acclaimed Irish author and columnist\, known for his humorous explorations of Irish life and culture. He is the author of eight books\, including the Irish Mammies trilogy\, Bolloxology\, the Ann Devine novels and Climate Worrier. As a stand-up comedian\, MC and event host\, he has performed all over the world. He has written for and performed on TV and radio and has a weekly column for the Irish Examiner. He lives in Dublin\, but the language of his birthplace of Dripsey in Co. Cork is still very much in his heart. \nPat Carty is a freelance arts journalist and broadcaster whose work has featured in The Sunday Independent\, The Sunday Times\, The Irish Examiner\, The Irish Independent\, The Irish Times\, The Business Post\, Hot Press\, and Classic Rock Magazine. He’s a regular contributor on RTE Radio One’s Arena\, and on several Newstalk shows including The Hard Shoulder\, Moncrieff\, and Lunchtime Live. He’s turned up on television the odd time too but producers are unanimous in their opinion that his is a face for radio.
