From Character to Plot

In partnership with the Irish Writers Centre.
Feel frustrated with your story? It’s not because you don’t know what you want: it’s because your characters don’t. This workshop, with author and poet Tim MacGabhann, features exercises for getting to know your characters’ desires, and setting them in motion, therefore animating your short story or novel-in-progress. The way that this macro level of the story is borne out at the level of the sentence will also be considered, with a view to producing cleaner and more transparent prose.
Please note we may be capturing candid imagery at this event for use on our social media and website.
Tim MacGabhann is the author of the novels Call Him Mine (2019) and How to Be Nowhere (2020), the memoir The Black Pool (2025), the short story collection Saints (2025), and the poetry collection Found in a Context of Destruction (2026).
