The Future of Publishing. A Dublin Book Festival 20th Anniversary Panel

Twenty years of Irish publishing. Twenty years of imprints, magazines, and independent presses reshaping what gets written, printed, and read. To mark two decades of the Dublin Book Festival, we’re bringing together a panel of professionals who’ve helped build that story, and asking them what comes next. Join Dr. Jonathan C. Creasy (UCD Mary Lavin Centre for Creative Writing; Publishing Ireland) in conversation with Brendan Barrington (Sandycove/Penguin Ireland), Eimear Ryan (Banshee), and Noelle Moran (UCD Press) for a wide-ranging look at Irish publishing past, present, and future.

Brendan Barrington is Editorial Director at Sandycove, an imprint of Penguin Random House. He is also editor and publisher of The Dublin Review.

Noelle Moran is Executive Editor of UCD Press, publishers of the best contemporary non-fiction writing, focusing on scholarly work in subjects including history, literary studies, and more recently migration, gender and queer studies, and art history and architecture. After her MA in Postcolonial Literature at the University of London, Noelle began her publishing career interning at HarperCollins and Bloomsbury Publishing, London. Her first job was as an editor at The History Press in Gloucestershire, and she has worked in both trade and academic publishing since. She currently sits on the EDI Committee for Publishing Ireland and is a member of Even UP, a committee of UK and Irish university presses committed to EDI in their workplaces, in who they work with, and in what they publish.

Eimear Ryan is the author of a novel, Holding Her Breath (Penguin Sandycove, 2021), and a memoir, The Grass Ceiling (Penguin Sandycove, 2023). Her writing has appeared in Granta, The Dublin Review, The Stinging Fly, Winter Papers, Lit Hub, and elsewhere. She is a co-founder and editor of Banshee literary journal and its publishing imprint, Banshee Press. From Co. Tipperary, she now lives in Cork city, where she lectures in creative writing at University College Cork.

Dr. Jonathan C. Creasy is a writer, editor, publisher, and producer. He teaches in UCD’s Mary Lavin Centre for Creative Writing and is a Director of Publishing Ireland.
