Get ready to rock this December as guitar hero Richie Malone (Status Quo) and his band perform live at The Purty Kitchen Dún Laoghaire for the very first time!

Richie Malone is an Irish rock musician best known as the rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist for the legendary British rock bandStatus Quo. Stepping into one of the most high-profile roles in classic rock history, Malone officially joined the lineup in 2016 following the passing of long-time rhythm guitarist Rick Parfitt. Having performed over 250 shows with Status Quo since joining, his high-energy performance style, heavy rhythmic drive, and deep reverence for the band’s iconic sound have made him a central figure in Status Quo’s modern touring and recording era.

Growing up in South Dublin, Malone was introduced to Status Quo at a young age by his father, Karl, an avid lifelong fan. In fact, Karl named Richie “Richard” in honor of his own personal idol, Richard “Rick” Parfitt. Attending his first Status Quo concert in 1999, Malone was instantly hooked on Parfitt’s hard-hitting, percussive rhythm style and commanding stage presence. Emulating Parfitt’s technique, Malone became a dedicated guitarist and formed the Dublin-based hard rock outfit RAID, performing extensively across Ireland and building a reputation as a powerhouse frontman and guitarist.

Over years of attending shows, Malone established a close personal rapport with members of Status Quo backstage. In July 2016, when Rick Parfitt was forced to step down from touring due to severe health issues, the band personally reached out to Malone. He made his debut with Status Quo in Leuven, Belgium, seamlessly stepping into the rhythm slot. Following Parfitt’s tragic passing in December 2016, Malone was officially announced as the band’s permanent rhythm guitarist.

“It’s a real Hollywood story — named by his father after Rick Parfitt, gifted a custom replica guitar, and eventually standing on stage powering the rhythm section of one of the world’s most enduring rock bands.”
