No One Tells You

November 5 @ 1:15 pm - 2:15 pm
Lunchtime Talk with Carlo Gébler

In partnership with the Irish Writers Centre.

Join author Carlo Gébler as he explores what sense is one to make of the death of another? Adopt the stoic position, endure and learn? Accept death, whatever else it is, as educational? It often seems that’s what the culture would like us to do but in No One Tells You, the Last Years of Edna O’Brien (New Island) Gébler’s tack is that death is an appalling diminution about which there is nothing good to be said. Hurt is hurt. Grief isn’t educational—it’s enlarging, which is something else entirely.

He teaches at Trinity College Dublin, based in the Oscar Wilde Centre for Irish Writing. He is a member of Aosdána.
