Skerries Mills is unique experience showcasing the only site in Europe with 2 Sail Mills, a Watermill and bakery. It is operated as a Social Enterprise and every visit supports the preservation of the heritage lands, and the role of Mills in the Community.
The Watermill Café, open 7 days a week, carries on the tradition of baking in this historic complex, with scones and cakes baked freshly on-site each morning. The café welcomes many local groups including Irish language enthusiasts and those relaxing with embroidery, or enjoying a beverage while overlooking the Community Garden as it comes into bloom. Visitors are welcome to browse local Art Exhibitions in the Watermill building or ramble through the weekly Farmers Market.
The highly rated Guided Tours brings visitors up close to, and inside the restored mills, demonstrating the watermill in action. The Mills, each one very different, are iconic symbols of natural energy, and the tour delves into their workings and stories, going back to monastic times in Ireland. The tour has indoor and outdoor elements and runs everyday throughout the year. Tickets can be booked online or at reception.
Skerries with its strong links to Saint Patrick, offers visitors a wonderful excursion from Dublin City. This quite town have miles of easily walkable coastal path which can be dipped on and off to explore the public Art Trail and harbour area, many restaurants and local bars.
How to get there:
Skerries Mills is a five minute walk from Skerries Train Station, served by the Dublin City to Drogheda rail line, Northbound Commuter service, departing regularly from Dublin Connolly, Tara Street or Pearse Station. Car-parking is also available (Saturday morning fill early). Exit 4,5, or 6 from the M1 motorway Dublin/Belfast route. 22k from Dublin Airport.
